OUR STORY / THE BROTHERHOOD

WHEN THE GAME ENDS, THE WORK OF BECOMING DOESN’T.

Champions Corner was built by former student-athletes who knew the silence that follows the final whistle. The routines change. The locker room disappears. And for many men, the identity that carried them for years suddenly feels uncertain.

We started this brotherhood because the transition out of competitive sport is not something anyone should have to navigate alone. What made us better teammates—honesty, discipline, accountability, and care for the man beside us—still matters. It just takes a new arena.

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER

YOUR CAREER ENDED. YOUR TEAM DIDN’T.

To the former athlete reading this for the first time:

Were you ever told the best years of your life would be in the arena: the court, the rink, the track, the field, wherever yours was?

I heard that constantly on the court, when I was deciding between hooping for one more year or diving into whatever came next. I believed it long enough to almost let it become true.

That made me sick every time I heard it. Champions Corner was created to build a team and environment that pushes us to dive into life after sports together and chase our dreams and passions in the next season of life. It’s meant to bring that former athlete back out, into a new arena.

I know what it feels like to go from the spotlight, from competing for championships, from being praised and cheered on based on what happened on that hardwood. The community that rallied around you. The brotherhood you formed by going to battle with the same group, season after season.

I also know the end of one chapter isn’t the end of the story. Be proud of that man: the athlete, the wins and losses, the locker room conversations, the long bus rides, being the big man on campus. Be proud of him. But accept the chapter is complete.

That acceptance is where it starts. From there, we reprogram the same mindset that made you dangerous in your sport and point it at the next team, the next mission, the life you’re actually driven to build, leaning on brothers doing the same thing beside you. It starts internally. Then it becomes a lifestyle.

Champions Corner isn’t here to recreate the past. We’re here to be the team you don’t have anymore: one that understands exactly where you’re coming from and still pushes you toward new passions, new chapters, a new life after sports.

You still have a team. You still have work to do. And you don’t have to do it alone.

The arena changed. The standard didn’t.

A NOTE FROM JEFF HUNTER

I had the habits. I didn't have the team.

Sports, specifically basketball, had been everything to me. I picked up a basketball the other day and got hit with a flashback of all the memories, the friends, and the skills I learned through the game. Basketball shaped me. It gave me hope, purpose, and a reason to keep becoming a better version of myself. Life made sense. I had direction. I knew what the goal was. Sports taught me how to show up consistently, set goals, and push myself and my teammates to excel.

Nobody ever prepared me for what life would look like after the ball stopped bouncing. I’d always heard the saying “the ball is going to stop bouncing someday,” but it never hit home because I was too invested in the moment. After graduating, the ball did stop bouncing. By choice. I was ready to navigate the real world on my own.

365 days into that transition, I was alone. I was lost. I was trying to figure out what my purpose was. I still had the habits: lifting, reading, trying to get 1% better. But none of it made sense. John Adams was reaching out about joining his Champions Corner podcast, and I had zero interest in faking like I had it all figured out after sports. It wasn’t until I saw the first Champions Corner annual meetup that it clicked. I was doing the right things, but I was doing them alone. I had no team. I was self-centered, only focused on myself, and missing that locker room feel.

This is what changed when John and I connected. He helped shift my perspective, I am now one year into being apart of Champions Corner and this is what I learned: Champions Corner is a team after sports that doesn’t have life figured out, but wants to recreate the skills, the fun, and the camaraderie we all once had through sports.

Champions Corner changed my life. It gave me a clearer direction. It gave me friendships to bounce ideas off of. It gave me a place to talk about where I’m struggling, and a place to seek discomfort. That’s why I’m so passionate about growing this with our Champions Corner team, reaching others, and hopefully changing one more person’s life. Just one at a time.
